This is a really cool new idea. I've made some changes to the yampp-7 firmware so it can use a WLAN Compact Flash card.
In my case, I used the D-Link DCF-660W, which is a CF Type I card which is pretty easy to interface. It uses the Prism II chipset, for which there was plenty of code on the internet.
I adopted some FreeBSD code and stripped off a lot of extra stuff to squeeze it into the mega161.
For more info on the WLAN drivers, look at AbsoluteValue Systems site.
This picture also shows the EL backlight on the yampp-7. It's a lot better than LED backlight and it's much smaller and easier to add.
With the current version of the WLAN firmware, the player just plays data as it is streamed to it, from a simple PC application, where playlists are set up exactly as before with yamppLink, but new versions of the software will be able to use FTP to list the files on the PC (actually ANY PC on the internet that has a public FTP server !!), and to play the files.
The DLink card is a cool little card. Full 11 MBps is possible and I've run several tests at this speed.
The player PCB is exactly the same as the normal yampp-7, so it's just a matter of software changes.
If you have a D-Link or
other Prism II based CF WLAN card, you can download the preliminary beta versions of the player firmware and PC app here.
The code will soon be updated and put on the normal download page. Also, this page will undergo a lot of changes as I add more information. There is a lot of new possibilities for a WLAN player !!
