Ok, I have read the instruction manual by Eric (thanks!) and I only have one question....
If I buy the assembled Y7 from the webshop, do I still need to program the bootloader?
...Because I don't have a programming adapter and I don't think I'm going to be able to afford one!

I think the y7 comes programmed with bootloader
but if it doesnt you can make a cable easily by
using computer cable parts.Try Jespers original
and keep reading. If you want to learn you will
have to experiment and be patient.Only ask questions
which have been analysed and formulated before
posing them............read the read me that is
included with all software.MIS has put allot of effort
to make them user friendly and goof proof  :)

Well then... I hope it comes programmed... otherwise I DO have a lot of spare comp parts lying around.
My dad's going to buy a solder and some iron... and I hope a normal 3mm diameter round file will work on the iPod case (I think it's acrylic).
But the instruction manual by Eric doesn't really show how to move the buttons around and I can't find anything on how to do that in this forum. Could you suggest any further reading material?

Thanks.
Kev

I shouldn't really laugh, but some how I don't think that "some iron" is going to do you much good... ...maybe some solder and a soldering iron....

Anyway, this sounds like a great project. I wish there were people giving away iPods where i live! I reckon that it'll be a very tight fit unless the screen you use is really thin.

...err.... I've noticed that this forum has a dodgy database. Not all my posts are being posted ???.
When I said "iron", I meant soldering iron of course ;D
My brain got the two mixed up somehow :P

Anyway, I've compiled a checklist:
- y7 assembled
- n3310 lcd
- EL backlight
- n3310 Li-Ion battery
- NEW iPod 4G front & back plates w/ scroll wheel
= 323.35 AUD

Question! Since I can't use the scroll wheel, could I use a mini ALPS switch under each of the 4 buttons?

I've also compiled a rough plan, which you can view through my website. Please correct me if I made any mistakes...

Thanks for your support guys...

Thank you for the response!
I guess I'll have to blindly experiment...

Great minds think alike :P

Scroll wheel? See my thread "removing buttons..." in the hardware forum, there's a picture of the scroll wheel PCB.
I don't think it's possible to directly hookup the scroll wheel to the yampp... but you could use the 4 buttons... I think.

If you are looking for the iPod case, I recently found a website which sells them. http://wholesalepdas.com

Good site gor the parts. I found some on ebay as well and did see I could get one whole. I was thinking that there was a cble that would normal hook to the MB on the ipod and that I could interface to that I guess since I don't have one yet then I could not make that assumption. :-\

Actually, there is a cable from the scroll wheel which hooks up to the iPod mobo. I just didn't include it in my picture.
It's very proprietary though - so you'll be experimenting very blindly...
I don't really even bother going on ebay anymore - price gets too high near the end. Plus you might not even get the item (scam?)...

I only had prolems once from ebay and that was many years ago but am still leary. Ok from your pic I can see that the out site line or trace is the ground for the switches. It would be helpful if you had a "volt/ohm meter" that has a tone you can use to tell when the buttons pushed which line get connected. "from outside to...."

My friend got scammed by some ebay seller... that's enough to make me stay away.
It would also be helpful if I knew how to use one ;D
I'm a complete newb at electronics, unfortunately...
