Car interfacing / iPod ...
« on: 16.02.2005 at 22:49:09 »
Recently I read a lot about car interfaces for iPod (BMW/Mercedes/Nissan/Alfa)
Has someone (Pierre maybe :) ) more infos about the iPod's interface ?
It seems a nice idea to me to pretend to be an iPod in order to get my yampp up and running seamlessly in a car ....

Any ideas / suggestions ?!?
yes - no  -maybe  -i don't know - can you repeat the question ?

Jesper showed his interface, while the yampp is acting like a yampp and still seamlessly integrated into his car in here:

yes , I know it.

The clou would be to have a *GENERIC* solution that might run in many new cars out of the box. Jesper's solution was yet another individual one .. and if we could teach our yampps to pretend to be an iPod on the protocol side (for that particular car purpose) would be a LOT smarter.

If you dont want to spend loads of money, time and effort installing an ipod or yampp into your cars, simply get one of those cool tape thingys (lol i dunno what theyre called but i got one). You simply plug the jack into the headphone/output of your mp3 device, and put the tape into the player! I know its a crummy idea, but it costs nothing compared to installing nd wiring, updating nd maintaning one in your car! besides, what if it gets stolen?! If you do it my way, you can take your ipod about with you wherever you go.

There is also another way. Its called the Griffin iTrip FM Transmitter, and when plugged in (obviously) will broadcast your music enough for your car radio to pick up. This tool is illegal in England (classed as making your own radio station, which isnt allowed), and initaily only for the ipod, but all you do is plug it into the jack socket. So basically you can plug it into anything with a jack socket!

What player ? Modern cars don't have tape players.

Yes, and in basically the rest of the world too, except the US.
