I've modified the yampp-7 code to use a WLAN CF card, so music can be streamed to the player from a PC.
Hello to another exiting year with yampp !
Finally, the new PCB's has arrived, and the web-pages are updated.
There's a new Rev D of yampp-3/U with a connector for the Nokia 3310 graphic LCD.
Also, yampp-7 now has this connector.
Both players now also use the BM version of the FTDI USB chip.
I've added a number of cool displays to the web-shop (see Parts), the Blue/Yellow 4*20 display is really nice. Nokia 3310 LCD's is also available.
Apparently there was an error in the email address about the yampp T-shirts.
We have been talking about making a nice yampp T-shirt (perhaps without the "Yet another ..." text).
It's now fixed, so let me know what you think about that, by clicking here.
Released the test code for yampp-3/U.
Finally ! We've released the yamppLink application.
Also, the yampp pages have been updated with information about how to prepare your yampp for use with yamppLink and with links to the latest bootloader and firmware.

Added 2 new players and a USB Module to the hardware pages.
The new players are yampp-3/USB, a USB enhanced yampp-3 with a number of new features, and the yampp-7, a portable Compact Flash based player.
Information is still sparse about these, but more info will follow, as the pages are built up.
Kits for these new players will soon be available in the web-shop, but assembled units are already available.
The USB Module is a nice little module for playing around with the FTDI FT245AM chip, and an easy way to connect something via USB.
After exactly one year of business, the web-shop is now back from a short vacation in a refreshed state.

Today, I got two prototype PCB's for yampp-3. I'll populate one as possible, and verify the functionality.

I've finally got permission from Philips to publish the parts of the USB code that contained Philips copyright notices, so I'm now cleaning up the yampp-4 code and will release it shortly. The new schematics is a bit different from what I'm running right now, but I'll probably publish them anyway.
I've ordered some prototype PCB's for an updated yampp-3, and will release more information and pictures as soon as I get them. Should take about 10-12 days or so.
Important notice !!! Please read this email from VLSI, explaining why some songs won't play on the VS1001.
It's NOT a chip problem, it's a problem with the MPEG headers in the files.
Due to these problems, the update of the yampp-3 pages has been delayed.
I will hopefully be able to update during the holidays.
Finally ! The new VS1001G has been released by VLSI.
I've dusted off the old yampp-3 and put the VS1001 through it's paces. And, it works GREAT. Bugs all gone, great sound. I'll update some other details on yampp-3 and publish the information. Keep an eye on the yampp-3 page.
Not much update here today, but I've launched my other AVR pages with miscellaneous other AVR projects.
I've updated the yampp-4 pages with some more information and a few new photos.
I had to reinstall EAGLE, and upgrade it to 4.0, so I have to play around with it for a while and convert my old projects before I can release some schematics.

It's been a while since I updated last time, other things has been taking up my time.
As you can see, the layout of the pages has been slightly modified. This because the hardware page got a bit big, so I've not split up into separate project pages.
USB is running on yampp-4, it works as a Mass Storage Class device, meaning you can just plug the player into Win98/2000 and the disk will show up in the explorer as a normal harddisk.
The transfer speed is unfortunately not as great as expected, but around 120-130 kBytes/second.
I will update the yampp-4 pages with more information shortly.

I have been busy with some Perl coding for a while and haven't been able to work much on yampp.
But this evening I connected the old USB test board from yampp-1 to the yampp-4 and copied all the code into the yampp-4 project.
I had to do some changes, as the old code was for the 16-bit Hitachi processor, but it took only about 2 hours before I had USB running on yampp-4 !

yampp-3 is temporarily put on ice while waiting for a new chip version from VLSI, which shoud come in the beginning of December. The VS1001d prototype version unfortunately had too many bugs to be really useful. It plays, but have sync problems. This should all be fixed in the production version.

Planning for a yampp-4. ATmega103 based, LCD, RS-232, Keyboard an IR interfaces for interaction. IDE interface for HD or CD-ROM. USB interface for uploading/downloading data to the disk.

The VS1001 is now playing ! There was a few errors in the datasheet, but now it's up and running. Sounds great !
